Battle Over Cardiff Books Rages

The BBC reports that the plan to sell books belonging to the Cardiff City Library remains controversial, with Cardiff University stepping in to request an opportunity to purchase the books before the collection is broken up at auction. Authorities at the university said they are "prepared to commit resources and to seek external funding for cataloguing, conservation and public access and display," and also extended a longstanding offer to receive the materials on deposit so that it can be kept together and available for use. A member of the Cardiff council said they "would be seeking an urgent meeting with the university's vice chancellor to discuss the issues raised."
